Feltech Host G20 London Summit
Andrew Smith

Feltech, G20 London Summit

We are proud to announce that we were awarded the contract for staging the G20 London Summit

Working with our event partner WRG we had only 34 working days, to organise one of the largest and prestigious events to take place in the UK, with the outcome on view for the world to see and hear.

The excel centre had been chosen as the location for such a high profile event,  logistically this seemed to cover all the areas needed, location, wide open exhibition halls, internal infrastructures, transport links, and so on.

However there were two major obstacles to overcome, flight path of aircraft to and from London City Airport dictated the satellite earth station location for the world’s media. This had to be located on the opposite side of the docks from excel, which required multiple runs of 2km of fibre linking to and from the main site.

The bridge over the dock linking the two sites would be closed on the day of the summit, requiring boats to ferry crews, and journalists between the north and south sides of the dock, fortunately it was a calm day!

The crew had 60 hours to rig the total event
